GII congratulates Michael Stavropoulos on his appointment as the Head of Portfolio Construction & Strategy – Equities at AustralianSuper.
AustralianSuper is the largest superannuation fund in Australia and one of the top 40 pension funds globally, with about AU$261 billion in assets under management, which it invests on behalf of 2.7 million members.
Michael joins AustralianSuper from the Victorian Funds Management Corporation (VFMC) where he spent 13.5 years, and most recently held the title, Head of Equities.
VFMC is a public authority and its role is to provide investment and funds management services to Victorian public authorities in a commercially effective, efficient and competitive manner. VFMC’s clients include: TAC, Worksafe, ESSSuper, National Gallery of Victoria, Royal Children’s Hospital and The University of Melbourne.
As the leader of the equity team Michael was responsible for the management and oversight of VFMC’s listed equity portfolios including Australian, Global Large Cap and Emerging Markets equities. He was also a member of VFMC's Investment Leadership Team and Total Risk Allocation Committee.
Michael joined VFMC as a Portfolio Manager within the equities team, initially responsible for investment research, manager selection and portfolio construction across VFMC’s listed equity portfolio. He has over 20 years of experience in funds management and investment consulting.
