GII congratulates Bruce Tomlinson on his appointment to the role of Investment Director at the Minderoo Foundation.

The Minderoo Foundation is Andrew and Nicola Forrest’s philanthropic organisation, one of Australasia’s largest, with AU$2.6 billion funds invested in philanthropic causes that accelerate positive impact outcomes. The key causes the Foundation supports range from eliminating childhood cancer to improving early childhood education, ending modern slavery and driving accountability in and responsibility for global overfishing, plastic pollution, global warming and the tech ecosystem, among others.

Bruce is the Foundation’s first dedicated investment hire with the objective of helping to grow and evolve its investment portfolio. Bruce will report to John Hartman, the Chief Investment Officer of Minderoo and Tattarang, the Forrest family office and one of Australia’s largest private investors.

Bruce joins Minderoo from the Australian Retirement Trust (ART), one of the largest superannuation funds in the country with AU$230 billion in assets under management, created through the merger of Sunsuper and QSuper, which was completed in February 2022.

Bruce spent close to 15 years at Sunsuper, and most recently headed up the alternatives strategies investment program at the fund. During his tenure there, he built the fund’s defensive alternatives program which included hedge funds, private credit and direct mid-risk assets.

He holds a bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Western Australia, a master of business administration degree from The Ohio State University, and a postgraduate certificate in management from the Macquarie University Graduate School of Management. Bruce is also a CFA charter holder and was a founding director of the CFA Society Sydney.

We wish Bruce all the best in his new role and continued success to the team at the Minderoo Foundation.
