GII congratulates James Merlino on his appointment as Independent Chair and Independent Director of REST. He will take over the role from Ken Marshman when he finishes his term on 31 December 2022. Ken was appointed as an Independent Director on 17 December 2013 and as Independent Chair of the Board on 31 July 2014.

Established in 1988, REST is amongst the largest profit-to-member superannuation funds in Australia by membership, with approximately 1.9 million members and AU$66 billion in assets under management.

James joins REST from 1 January 2023 following a 20-year career in the Victorian Government where he most recently held the positions of Deputy Premier, Minister for Education and Minister for Mental Health. His other ministerial portfolios included Minister for Sport, Recreation and Youth Affairs, Minister Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs and Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers.
